یک خواننده آوازهای نمایشی زیر نظر آموزگار سخت گیری آموزش می دید .استاد او روی تمرین ِ قطعه ای از یک آواز سماجت می کرد هر روز و هر ماه ،تکرار و تکرارِ همان قطعه ،بدون اینکه کمی بیشتر از آن را اجازه دهد. بالاخره او ناامید و وازده شد مرد جوان رفت تا استاد دیگری بیابد.
یک شب هنگام توقف در یک مهمان خانه به یک مسابقه از بر خوانی برخورد کرد. چیزی را که از دست نمی داد بنا براین در مسابقه شرکت کرد، البته او همان قطعه ای راکه خوب بلد بود، خواند. وقتی خواندن او به پایان رسید اداره کننده مسابقه ، اجرای او را به شدت تحسین کرد . علیرغم شرمساریِ شاگرد ، مجری باور نکرد که این اجرای یک مبتدی باشد. از او پرسید :" آموزگار تو چه کسی است؟ او باید استاد بزرگی باشد".ا
بعد ها شاگرد ،همانند استاد کوشی جی مشهور شد

Practice Makes Perfect


A dramatic ballad singer studied under a strict teacher who insisted that he rehearse day after day, month after month the same passage from the same song, without being permitted to go any further. Finally, overwhelmed by frustration and despair, the young man ran off to find another profession. One night, stopping at an inn, he stumbled upon a recitation contest. Having nothing to lose, he entered the competition and, of course, sang the one passage that he knew so well. When he had finished, the sponsor of the contest highly praised his performance. Despite the student's embarrassed objections, the sponsor refused to believe that he had just heard a beginner perform. "Tell me," the sponsor said, "who is your instructor? He must be a great master." The student later became known as the great performer Koshiji

یک شاگرد ورزش های رزمی نزد استادش رفت و گفت:"علاقه مندم ورزش های رزمی بیشتری را یادبگیرم، ضمن فراگیری نزد شما دوست دارم نزد استاد دیگری سبک دیگری را هم آموزش ببینم،نظرشما در این مورد چیست؟ "
استاد پاسخ داد:
"شکارچی که دو خرگوش را همزمان تعقیب می کند نمی تواند هیچ یک را شکار کند"



A martial arts student approached his teacher with a question. "I'd like to improve my knowledge of the martial arts. In addition to learning from you, I'd like to study with another teacher in order to learn another style. What do you think of this idea?"
"The hunter who chases two rabbits," answered the master, "catches neither one."

شاگردجدید از استاد ذن می پرسد که چگونه می تواند خودش را برای آموزش آماده کند؟ استاد پاسخ داد"فکر کن من یک زنگ هستم . اگر به آهستگی به من ضربه ای بزنی صدای ضعیفی خواهی شنید و اگر ضربه ی محکمی بزنی صدایی همانند ناقوس انعکاس آن خواهد بود

new student approached the Zen master and asked how he should prepare himself for his training. "Think of me a bell," the master explained. "Give me a soft tap, and you will get a tiny ping. Strike hard, and you'll receive a loud, resounding peal."
